Staff Members Who Can Relate

October 17, 2017 | by Haven Staff

For an addict, entering a treatment facility can be a traumatic experience. For some that have been court ordered to attend, their minds may be filled with anger and resentment over having to go. For some, family or loved ones may have intervened, sometimes strongly encouraging the addict they need help. For those that have voluntarily checked into a treatment facility, the fear of the unknown, and the anxiety of having to give up something (drugs or alcohol) they’ve been unable to quit on their own can be a traumatic thought process.

For many, the denial of a drug addiction may create thoughts like, ‘What is a doctor or therapist, or clinician going to tell me, they don’t have any idea what I’m going through or what I’ve gone through.’

MANY PEOPLE FIND IT COMFORTING AND EASIER TO RELATE TO A STAFF MEMBER WHO HAS FIRST-HAND EXPERIENCE WITH ADDICTION.

Knowing what someone has been through seems to help them relate to that person and feel empathy in a situation that others, without experience, may not feel.

All the staff at The Haven have had experience with addiction and understand what addicts are going through. They know what it takes to walk through the treatment process, because they have experienced it. They are committed to the healing of their clients and devoted to helping them achieve the freedom and happiness that awaits them in recovery.
