Addiction to "Spice"

January 23, 2018 | by Haven Staff

Believe it or not, many addicts have not heard of the drug called, Spice. This is a fairly new drug which has hit North America at rapidly rising rates. For those addicted to spice, and looking for help to quit, they can often feel more alone because they feel other addicts do not understand their addiction in the same way. The truth is quite surprising.

WHAT IS SPICE?

Spice is also called "synthetic marijuana" due to the fact that several of the chemicals in spice are also found in marijuana. Spice is comprised of an herb mixture which looks like the material of a shredded plant. The difference between spice and marijuana, however, are the effects. The user feels far different on spice and it is found to be a much stronger, more dangerous drug.

SPICE WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS

  • Anxiety
  • Confusion
  • Depression
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Feelings of desperation
  • Headaches
  • Nausea
  • Nightmares
  • Palpitations
  • Paranoia
  • Restlessness
  • Tremors
  • Vomiting

MARIJUANA WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS

  • Anger or irritability
  • Depression
  • Fatigue
  • Nervousness
  • Problems concentrating
  • Restlessness
  • Hypersomnia after insomnia

RECOVERY FROM ADDICTION TO SPICE

We know that Spice is a different drug, as all drugs differ from one another, but there are so many similarities in recovery. The withdrawal symptoms from spice, as listed above, have several similarities to marijuana withdrawal symptoms. So, there are indeed people that understand what the recovering spice addict goes through.

More importantly, the steps to recover from Spice, or any drug, are all completely the same in Narcotics Anonymous (NA). The rooms of recovery hold many people that have struggled with drug addiction and are going through very similar patterns of life in recovery. That fellowship filled with experience, strength, and hope are the backbones of what have helped anyone struggling with addiction to fully recover and live a long and happy life.

If you or someone you love is struggling with addiction, help is available. Call The Haven to discuss options.
