Fight Back Addiction With a Lifetime of Friends

Fight Back Addiction With a Lifetime of Friends

For anyone that’s ever experienced life after recovering from addiction, it is almost immediately clear that support is key to long-term sobriety. Even after a person goes through treatment there are still so many stumbling blocks. Studies within the community suggest that finding a lifetime support system is crucial for long term abstinence.

Often times recovering addicts have to go back to their same situation. Those same circumstances can often lead to falling back into a routine or hanging around the same people they did prior to going to getting sober. Family differences don’t automatically fix themselves. Stressors don’t go away while a person is in treatment.

So, how does one fight-back and avoid getting stuck in the same routine, the same difficulties and problems even though they have found new-strength in their battle against addiction?

While there is no easy answer, enlisting the help of those who have been down the same path seems to help.

A lifetime support-system of friends to consult and handle the challenges that arise while living life day-to-day greatly improves the chances of lasting sobriety.

The Haven treatment facility in Salt Lake City welcomes each client into a life-long support network of friends who have recovered from substance use disorders.

That network is comprised of alumni and sober members of the recovery community. Those participants join in 12-step meetings, recreational therapy activities/trips and service work. Even after a person has been through treatment, real and long-term change can often be accompanied by the guiding hand of someone who has been down the same path.

Many recovering addicts find that giving back to those in a similar situation is a great way to pay-it-forward. This support system allows sharing strength and wisdom they’ve learned to those that are still finding their way.
